2018 Week In Review: Week 38
I don’t know if anyone finds these posts particularly helpful, but I appreciate the self-accountability they provide. So, I’m bringing back the week in review health and fitness reports! The last time I wrote was back in April when I was still training for a sprint triathlon. I was also completing Jillian Michaels’ BODYSHRED program at the same time. I quickly realized that doing both was not sustainable, at least not at that particular moment in time. While I should have prioritized the triathlon, I was so proud that I was actually sticking with the strength training program that I continued. The morning of the triathlon, I woke up miserably sick. I could barely get out of bed, let alone swim, bike, and run for a couple hours. In hindsight, I made the right decision!
Beyond BODYSHRED, though, I’ve largely floundered or been entirely inactive for the majority of the year. Not to downplay the accomplishment of completing that program, but I quickly fell back into habits I don’t love. I know I feel at my best when fitness is a regular part of my routine, and so I’m writing here to re-commit to myself. I want to honor my body and exercise is a necessary aspect of that. Plus, I really want to do so well at my 5k this fall! I’ve been back in a semi-consistent, albeit somewhat sporadic, routine for a bit now. But, I’m hopeful that adding a layer of public accountability will help take the semi and sporadic consistency to just pure consistency.
So, without further ado, it’s time to dive back into the weekly reviews!
Monday: OrangeTheory! I’ve resisted OTF for so long because of the cost, but a new studio opened in my area and I locked in a good price. While it’s still expensive, I am really loving the workouts and seeing a lot of improvements in my fitness in a very short period of time. 30 splat points, 600 calories burned.
Tuesday: Rest day.
Wednesday: Rest day.
Thursday: Yoga (Flex, 60 minutes). This is a newer class at my studio, similar in vein to Core Power Yoga, from what I’ve heard. It’s a combination of yoga and strength training. This was the first time I took the class and admittedly, didn’t love it, but I want to give it another try.
Friday: OrangeTheory. Moving forward, I want to write these updates as the week goes by so I can include more information than just the fact that I went to an OTF class. But, I’ve had the intention to get back to these recaps for a couple months now and this is the first time I’m actually doing it, so this is about as basic as it gets. 36 splat points, 620 calories burned.
Saturday: OrangeTheory. Typically, I won’t do three classes a week, since my membership only allots for eight a month. But, I’m doing an eight week transformation challenge and one of the requirements to stay in is taking three a week at minimum. My schedule will be a little OTF heavy for a couple months, but I am really excited to see what progress I make in that time. The Friday night/Saturday morning combination was brutal! 32 splat points, 611 calories burned.
Sunday: Rest day.
I am consistently pretty terrible at meal planning and food prep, largely because I don’t necessarily enjoy cooking. I’m trying to reign in my nutrition, though, and I know that these are two key factors. This last week, I primarily had smoothies for breakfast, vegan sloppy joes for lunch, and tacos for dinner. Another focus of late is trying to cut back on alcohol intake, limiting it to weekends. It became too much of a habit to have a drink with dinner and while I don’t think there’s a problem with that, it was getting to be too much for me.
Honestly, I’ve gone back and forth about if I want to keep sharing my weight loss efforts. I feel like every time I start sharing my progress publicly is when I get complacent. But, I am once again trying really hard to reach my “goal weight,” even if I don’t quite know if it’s a realistic goal. So, I’m going to be transparent about it again. I haven’t been stepping on the scale consistently lately, but this will be that much more reason to make it a regular habit. As of yesterday, I am 18.7 pounds away from my goal!
