Goals To Make 2020 My Best Year Yet

I know that New Year’s goals or resolutions are cliché, but I don’t care. I love them! There’s something so special about using the start of the year as a bit of a clean slate. My word for this year is discipline and I am excited to use that to propel me as I achieve my goals. Only a week in and I can already feel my mindset changing and healthy habits developing. For today, I want to talk about my goals to make 2020 my best year yet!

My Goals for 2020

For this year, I broke my goals down into four overarching categories: health and wellness, financial, personal, and professional. In truth, many of these are goals that I’ve set for many years but due to a lack of discipline (hence, my word of the year), I failed to achieve them. This year will be different!

So, here’s what I will achieve by December 31, 2020!

Health and Wellness

  • With running:
    • Run 1,000 miles
    • Finish the Milwaukee Marathon
    • Run a PR attempt the Bayshore Marathon 
    • Run at PR attempt the River Bank Run 25k
  • On my yoga mat:
    • Develop a(n almost) daily yoga practice
    • Take 100 classes at the studio 
    • Improve some of my favorite (and challenging) poses: crow, handstand, and wheel
  • At OrangeTheory:
    • Take 156 classes 
    • Participate in (and do my best to win) the Transformation Challenge 
    • Participate in the March DriTri
    • PR at the September DriTri
    • Take a 90 minute class
    • Increase my base pace to 6.2 mph
    • Hit 10.0 for an all-out pace at least once
    • Be able to do push-ups from my toes


  • Increase my savings by $1,000
  • Pay off three loans


  • Travel out of state at least three times
  • Read 100 books
  • Wear (and feel sexy af) in my LBD on my birthday (backstory: I bought this dress that I absolutely loved for New Year’s Eve 2019 but ended up with the stomach flu and spent the night on my couch. With the weight I gained last year, it currently does not fit and I want to change that!)
  • Develop a good skin care routine; I’m using Grace’s post for an an affordable nighttime skin care routine as a starting point because I really trust her opinions
  • Make my bed every morning (a habit that’s scientifically linked to increased happiness and productivity)
  • Enjoy more live music and arts in my city
  • Go to at least three MLB games


  • Complete my NASM continuing education course (weight loss specialist)
  • Sign two coaching clients
  • Blog at least once a week
  • Update all my old posts to be SEO-friendly
  • Monetize my website
  • Reach 3,000 Instagram followers 
  • Have at least one sponsored post

Sure, it’s a lot. But, it’s a lot that gets me really excited. I think that if we’re not excited about our goals, that’s the first step to failure. Sure, the glow of the new year will fade, but I hope that my excitement for making this a great year – the best year yet – doesn’t. I have a really amazing feeling that 2020 will be incredible and I’m determined to do what I can to make that my reality.
